Peace for Dogs PSA

Stop animal abuse

My answers for ponder questions on pages 98-99

I chose this PSA because this should really be stopped, the animal abuse/cruelty. Everyday innocent animals cry out for help because they are being abused, beaten, and neglected. I don't understand why people do such a thing that's so heartbreaking and unruly. Animals should be treated like the way we are treated. Animals are not exempted to the golden rule that "do unto others what you want others do unto you". The Bible says in Proverbs 12:10 that "The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel" This proverb proves that we should take care of the animals and not do harm unto them.

1. Identify the main message of the PSA?

     a.  The main message of this PSA is obviously to stop the animal abuse that is being practiced around the world. In the picture, you can see a dalmatian dog that looks like a soccer ball with a soccer goal net behind it. This clearly illustrates that the dog is going to be kicked which is a sign of animal cruelty and this PSA shows the public that it should be stopped.

2. Analyze the creative strategies to convey the message of the PSA.

     a.  The concept of this PSA is simply to put an end to animal cruelty. Thinking in the picture that some people will kick the dalmatian to the goal net or the "18 yard box" is a heart breaking scenario which means some wicked people without a heart treats animal poorly. This PSA quickly captured my attention because I love animals and I have a great compassion for them. There's this time when I was in grade school back then, I saw a cute puppy in the street lying down alone when I was playing some filipino games. I stopped playing and when I've gone near the puppy I saw that he's full of mud and shivering, I immediately brought the puppy in our house and to make the long story short, I kept him and he became my pet. That's why this is the PSA that I chose because I'm very compassionate when it comes to animals.

    b. The design of this PSA is very clever because when you just look at the picture, you will understand it right away that it is about animal cruelty. In fact, this PSA picture didn't include any caption because they know that the people can get the message of it right away. It is very brilliant and moving.

    c. You can understand the concept of it even without even having a caption or something written in the picture because both the concept and the design blends with each other.

3. Find out the technical requirements necessary to construct the PSAs.

   a. The equipments that were used perhaps a camera and they just photoshopped it. The lighting is obviously a natural light because it was shot outdoor.

     b. The setting, perhaps is the factor that make the production design which is in a football field. When you're going to look closely it is beside a shore with a kinda cloudy skies and I think this makes the viewer sad because of the cloudy, kinda dark effect.

     c. It is only a picture, meaning the special effects that were used was only photoshop or some photo editor.

4. Evaluate how the creativity of the PSA relates to the social dimension of the public message.

    a. The image or the PSA really brought a strong feelings upon it's viewers that the animal cruelty should stop. It is entertaining because of the soccer field and the dog which looks like a real soccer ball because of it's white skin and dark spots.

      b. For me, it really adds to the seriousness of the message because when you look at the dalmatian and the soccer field concept is a serious matter that we should be aware of which is the animal cruelty.

      c.  It doesn't discriminate other class of people because it is just focused on the animal cruelty.

      d. The positive effect is that PSA is exactly building up hope for the animals because every single day different animals were being abused not just dogs but every animal like pig, cows, sheep and crocodiles which people use their material to make an expensive product. It also makes as more compassionate to animals because of what most of them are experiencing like in the video below.

        e. The negative sides builds up a fear of the continuation of the animal abuse. Emotionally, I feel very angry to the people who treats animal so badly.

      f. The effective aspects are that people will be more aware of how they treat animals and will have more care for them although it ineffectively doesn't stop the animal abuse around the world because wicked people still treat animals very poorly, as if they were the "animal".

5. Determine the target audience of the PSA.

         a. The people that needs to see this PSA is the one who is doing the abuse to the animals, in order for them to realized that it is really bad and unruly, and of course for the people who has pets or animals in their house.

          b. The strategies that appeal to the audience is perhaps the dog that looks like a soccer ball,  he looks cute but at the same time he will be kicked into the goal because knowing that animal abuse is taking place now.

        c. Yes, because animals even though they're called animals they still has a heart and care for one another like in this picture (right) the king cobra didn't harm the puppies that were unfortunately trapped in a well with the snake. The authorities took the puppy unharmed and they released the cobra in the jungle. This is a proof that some people are worst than animals because they doesn't care about them and all they do is abuse the animal and treat them like the way they should not. Watch the short movie below and you will be moved that dogs/animals are really the man's best friend and nothing in this world can take them apart, even though if you're already dead.

Unfriended

Ponder question's answer on page 92

1. I'm not that familiar with the film genres of found footage, slasher, and teen movies because I don't usually watch that kind of genre. I watch horror films but not the found footage genres because personally I don't like them because they are not true and I'm just wasting my time because I know I'll just scare myself.

2. For me, horror movie suits injustice story films because it's the best way to show the people that injustice is a serious matter and if something happened to you like that,  you will be haunted or killed down. Thus, will make the audience of this movie not to do it by respecting someone's privacy online because they're going to think that the haunted thing might happen to them.

3. Indeed, cyber-bullying can lead a person to commit suicide and it is a serious phenomenon that is still happening right now. The visual approach of Unfriended suits this kind of situation and it portrayed how cyber-bullying might end up.

Unfriended clip picture
4. Media form and content can helps us to understand different culture presented in the diegesis, like in this movie (right) called unfriended they show us that in the US there are many young people in the states that is active in cyber-bullying or doing cyber-bullying because in America bullying has been a phenomenon ever since and it evolved into cyber-bullying. In the US, unlike any other countries their young people are very stubborn and wild according to what I've observed in this kind of movie and other american movies.

5. Media can be distributed around the world and can be viewed by the people who has a different culture and sets of beliefs. They might understand  it differently or just somehow relate in the movie. This movie shows how american youths are normally being wild by partying and getting drunk, while  other countries might say that partying and being drunk is not normal. Personally, I wondered why young people in america has this kind of practice, the partying and allowing people to come into your house with loud music on and get wild all night when your parents is on their vacation or in a training camp. For us, filipinos, it's weird  to do all this partying stuffs because we're from a different culture and background.

Which movies genres are you drawn to?

These are my answer to ponder questions in page 88.

1. Draw up a list movie genres you are drawn to.
Action, Comedy, Drama (Korean drama, except Lizquen movies), and lastly, Horror. I can be drawn to almost all type of movie genres except the indie movies.

2. Identify the key elements of these genres (typical plot, main characters, emotional impact, themes, imagery, film techniques).

Each genre has a different key elements and each key element plays a role on how each genre are different from each other.

Action movies are more of stunts and gun fights, usually the plot is about revenge and it is the most common plot of an action movie. The villain has left the hero with his relatives killed. Filled with anger and fury, the hero prepare himself and embarks on a bloody revenge. There are many more typical plot like an assassination of a notorious killer or an impossible escape from the most secure prison ever built.

The cinematography are more shaky because of the stunts and actions that why my grandparents don't watch action movies because they said the camera is so shaky and they got dizzy.

Hihihihi
Comedy movies are typically designed to make an audience laugh. The most important key element of a comedy genre is the timing because without great timing jokes fall flat and it becomes corny. In fact, the directors really hire professional comedians, even if they don't have an acting experience. Knowing exactly when to deliver a joke is the basis for a good comedy. Another factor is the exaggerated actions to get a laugh from the audience, including slipping, falling and funny faces. In a nutshell, comedy films exaggerate certain elements, such as language or situations that the character find themselves in, they are often lighthearted and for a family watch.

Drama, for me, the hardest genre of all, though some say that comedy is hard but drama has something to do much more than making people laugh. Personally, I experienced that there is something powerful about a good drama movie that just wraps around you and sucks you in. There's something powerful about a good story that can make your father cry. There's something timeless about a good dramatic movie that can make you think, reflect, feel, and react emotionally. One of the key elements of a good drama is being a true story knowing that it really happened in real life can make you relate more to the movie like the Titanic (left), which is very sad because many people died. Another key element is the great characters. It was the character and the portrayal of that character through brilliant acting that brings out the true power of the story that makes it connect to an audience. And lastly, the conflict of the story because if there's no conflict, and no tension, then the movie would be so boring.

Horror movies has many key elements like fear. Fear is the most important factor of a great horror story and a good horror movie scares people with fears they may not have. Along with establishing fears and connecting them with audiences, it's important to keep an element of surprise.
Surprised baby
Getting someone to fear what you've created isn't the hardest part; making the fear surprising is. When I watch horror films alone, I usually turn of the sound when it the music effects become creepy so that I won't be surprised. Another key element is suspense, a good horror movie in my observation has many suspense parts and some surprises come at the end of a long suspense.

Horror movies also has many mystery, it has many unsolved problems and clueless mystery that can add to the fear factor when you're watching. Mystery is another key element of a horror movie which makes you think throughout the film until the mystery is solved. I remembered watching with my cousin, we're guessing what is the mysterious mystery and find it out in the end if who won. Lastly, the most important factor of all, Spooky Music or the music itself. Try to remove the sound when you watch a horror movie and the whole movie won't be a horror anymore because you won't be scared anymore because it has not music which gives suspense to the movie. Music can create moods and emotions which is a great factor of a good horror movie, it intensifies feelings of suspense and shock.

3. Find samples of posters of movies that you really like. See if the elements in the movies are already presented in the posters alone.
Fast and Furious 6

Forevermore (Teleserye)

INSIDIOUS
STARWARS
These are some of the movies I really like. Some of them already presented the elements of the movie like Insidious, Star Wars and the Fast & Furious 6. You can see that their posters really presented the elements like in the Insidious, in the poster alone, it captivates the people that it is really a good horror movie because it says there that "It's not the house that's haunted" which is one of the key element of a horror movie, mystery.

4. Specify which elements of the movie genres you like draw you to watch.

Action movies are more of stunts and gun fights, this is particularly what draw me to watch action films because I like gun fights and breathtaking stunts.

In comedy, what draw me to watch this genre is their magic to make people laugh and their timing as what I've mentioned earlier because in my own experience it's really hard to make timing when you do a joke.

Drama films with no doubt my favorite genre because of their element of making the viewers relate to their story and what also make me watch this kind of genre is their actors and characters. Drama films has many lessons and values of life that they're relating to their movie so this is the main reason why I watch drama.

Lastly, Horror movies are the most interesting of all because of their element of surprise, suspense, and fear that can make you want to watch more horror fims.

 5. Determine the patterns of meanings that the movies you like to reinforce every time you watch (e.g., love conquers all; family is the most important thing in the face of disaster; a hero never loses; escape to other worlds is the best entertainment).

Fast and Furious 6 reinforce me that a family that sticks together can conquer all problems that they'll face could move mountains if they're united. In Forevermore, your first love lasts forever even if you're hindered with big problems and trials in the end you and your first love will still be in love with each other. Every movie has a lesson that will reinforce you a certain values or meanings every time you watch it. Let's just be extra careful of what we watch because it can affect our emotions, our feelings, and our behavior. I experienced this when I watch Drama/Love stories more often, as a result, my emotions and feelings became love oriented that's why we should be extra careful on what movie genre we watch because we can't really just watch movie and not be affected to it. When we watch a movie we digest words, we relate to their lives and most importantly we remember the lessons that it has given to us that's why it really affects us. So, let's all be careful and at the same time let's enjoy watching!

My social media profile

These are the questions in TEST 2

Facebook post

Questions:

1. What media message am I constructing/sharing/liking?

I’m sharing an inspirational picture to motivate other people. I posted this because every morning I have a short devotion and this is the message that I read in my devotional book that’s why I share it on facebook to motivate other people.

2. What is the purpose of my message?

The purpose of my message is to inspire other people to put God first before you do your job because in my personal experience when I put God first before my studies, everything becomes smooth and easy knowing that He’s guiding you in everything you do and he will bless the things that you’ll do.

3. What am I promoting? Whose voice am I amplifying and whose voices am I muting?

I’m promoting the effectiveness of putting God first before all the things that you need to do. I’m muting the voices of the people who don’t have time for God and they’re so caught up with their jobs because in reality, everything that we do here on earth will fade, all the trophies and medals, the recognition of being the best in class are all temporal.

4. Have I given the construction and dissemination of this message judicious and careful thought? Or was it due to the heat of the moment?

I have given this message with a careful thought because I’m just sharing an inspirational message

5. Will the media messages that I have constructed and dissemination possibly harm anyone or myself?

I think this facebook post of mine won’t harm anyone because it’s just message to motivate people.

3. What am I promoting? Whose voice am I amplifying and whose voices am I muting?

I’m not promoting myself here nor my electric guitar but I’m promoting the right attitude on how to sing for God and not to just sing for fame or “pogi points” because even though I’m good in singing I will never become pogi.

Questions:

1. What media message am I constructing/sharing/liking?

I’m sharing a sermon from one of my favorite pastor in the U.S. because I’m so moved with his preaching.

The purpose of this message is to make people use music the way it was originally designed for and that is to worship Jesus.

3. What am I promoting? Whose voice am I amplifying and whose voices am I muting?

Image result for earbuds gif                I am promoting that we should be careful on what we allow our ear buds to listen into. I’m promoting the real purpose of music. I’m muting the voices of people who always listen to worldly music about sin and wander why they can’t stop doing the bad things because they allow the bad music to manifest in their life. There’s more than just listening to music, because God is the one who created it and he designed it for worship, so that means if you’re listening to some bad music about sex and drugs you’re worshiping the devil which makes it easy for him to manifest in their lives.

4. Have I given the construction and dissemination of this message judicious and careful thought? Or was it due to the heat of the moment?

5. Will the media messages that I have constructed and dissemination possibly harm anyone or myself?
Yes, perhaps because some worldly music listeners might misinterpret my message and the people who doesn’t know God personally will possibly be affected or harm

6. What values am I promoting or censuring?

The values that I’m promoting is we should listen to good music about how good God is and not on the bad music that can harm us in the long run.

Inspirational Advertisements

Ponder Questions page 80

Advertisements can play a big role in today's society because almost everywhere there's an advertisement. You can see it in television commercials, in the billboard, newspapers, etc.
Advertising billboard

These kind of media can either convinced you to buy their product or motivate you with some values and lessons that you can learn from these short videos. There are so many inspirational advertisements out there that was made to inspire people and give positive values that is related with their products. Here, we are going to discuss about two advertisements that inspired many people especially women because these advertisements are Dove and Always which is a brand particularly for women.

1. Describe the effect of this approach of advertisement on you.

For me, these advertisements are touching and moving, even though it's for women I liked how they advertise their product with values incorporated with it.

2. Is it better to explicitly state the values that an advertisement is promoting?

Yes, it is better to state the values explicitly without any hidden or manipulative messages, in order for the people to get the values clearly.

3. By explicitly stating the values, did these advertisements mute other values?

For me, yes, because like in the dove commercial they said that everyone is beautiful, others just don't choose to be beautiful because they think that they're just average, but in the end they regret their decision and chose to be beautiful. In this example, they didn't mute the values that the Bible taught us that we are made beautifully according to his plan.

4. How are these advertisements different from the usual soap or hygiene product commercial?

It is different because a usual s

Original movie

1. How does the trailer of the original movie market itself?

They market the movie by giving some really good reviews from different medias like the TIME Asia and Empire Magazine. They do this kind of market strategy in order for the viewers to find it interesting because when someone makes a good review on a movie, that means it's really nice.

Bollywood version
2. How do the remakes market themselves?

The remakes market the movie like the original one but only they don't have reviews like what the original movie used for marketing.

3. How do the notions of "local" and "global" come into play in these three films and their trailers?

Each film has different translations, and concepts that made them all distinct from each other. The "global" films sounds like the whole world is involved in its making, the actors and the  production teams are firmly rooted in industrialized nations such as the United States, European countries Australia, and Japan, while the "local" films tend to be more focused only on the local cultures thus making them to get less appreciation.

Hollywood version

4. Who do you think are the target audiences of the original and the remakes?

For me, the target audience of the original movie is the Americans because in the trailer they said that "The sensation that swept Asia has come to haunt America" from this, I assumed that the Americans are their target audience. But, in general, I think the target audiences of these movies were young peoples and adults who wants a thrilling horror experience.

5. Do a little bit of research. Which was the most financially successful of the three films?

According to what I've researched, the most successful among the three films was the Hollywood version because I think the Hollywood version has many viewers because it is globally screened, though the original was screened globally also, the Hollywood version overshadowed the original because people might watch it most likely if it comes from hollywood.

The most beautiful love team ever

How was the most beautiful love team (LizQuen) formed?

ABS-CBN's leading love teams

ABS-CBN, I can say that they're good when it comes to love teams. All of their constructed love teams has a chemistry and almost all their love teams has a real romantic relationship that's why the chemistry and the kilig factor is natural.
Kilig feels

LizQuen, Liza (left) Enrique (right)

Lizquen love team, without any doubt has one of the most beautiful faces here in the Philippines. LizQuen is the combined name of Liza Soberano and Enrique "Quen" Gil. Liza Soberano is recently recognized as the top 2 most  beautiful face of the whole world. Thus, making them the most beautiful love team in the Philippines yet. ABS-CBN is the media company who made this epic love team and they're now currently working shooting their 7th project together. There are lot of things that make a successful love team, but mostly, it's just magic. Sometimes you can never really tell when two people will click. In the case of Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano, it was easy for them since they're already friends and has a same handler which is the Star Magic, but there were other factors that bring them together closely which ABS-CBN is good at because like in their television series "Teleserye" Forevermore, this made the LizQuen become closer to each other because they're just  isolated in the mountain taping the series for a couple of months and all that they can socialize with, is with each other which made them to get to know each other more.

One of the reason why LizQuen is such a hit because the chemistry is not forced unlike other love teams. Personally, I really love their chemistry,  not just because I have a crush on Liza, but because they're chemistry is undeniable like their movies, for me, all of their movies were real like it wasn't scripted. I've got caught up with their love team very much to the point that I check their twitter and instagram accounts everyday, but that was before. I changed now, I usually check updates in their account 2 times a week and not everyday. So basically, that's how the LizQuen was formed, the people like them very much because their perfect love team is just very fabulous, some other love teams are "nakakasawa" and easily overshadowed, but their love team is just perfect, you will fall in love with them over and over and you will have more kilig-to-the-bones factor everytime the ABS-CBN release a new movie or Television series about this legendary love team, LIZQUEN.

Are the little pigs responsible for murder or not? Which version and whose side of the story have tou heard? What will you do if you find out what really happened? And how will you find out?

For me, they're responsible for the murder of the wolf because the wolf was found in their house and was boiled alive. I heard the side of the pig that they're just protecting or self defensing theirselves from the wolf which attacked their house. If I find out what really happened I will do my duty to bring justice to those who are victimed and I will find it out by gathering more information and I will thoroughly investigate until I find it out.

Inevitable change in technology

 Ponder Questions (page 52)

"Video killed the radio star"

       1. How, according to the song, did "video kill the radio star"? Is this a good thing, as far as the song goes?

Technology is something that is changing from time to time and we can't stop it. The video killed the radio star because a new technology which is the video put an end to the radios, the video killed the radio star because before when there's no videos yet, radios are so famous and almost all people use it but then when the videos came, it put an end of the radio's popularity, thus the video killed the radio star. This isn't a good thing for the radio star because the videos overshadowed  them.

         2. What is the "wireless in '52" referring to?

The "wireless in '52" refers to the radios way back in 1952 that is used wirelessly.

        3. What does the line, "They took the credit for your second symphony, rewritten by machine and new technology," mean?

It means that the television is a better version of the radio and it uses the radio's sound to combine with pictures with motions create a better technology.

          4. What do you think is the music video saying about technology?

The music video meant that new technologies is an innovation of the older technologies and new technologies can put an end to the older ones.

      5. What are the song and the music video saying about the relationship of technology with concepts like art, originality, popular culture, innocence, nostalgia, boredom.

The song is saying that growing technologies can affect the originality of a certain technology like the radio star, because new technology comes from the old technology, the new ones are just an innovation of the old ones. Some technologies copies a certain art form of another technology to build a new technology like the video and the radio star, the videos just copied the sounds that came from the radio and it adds pictures in motion to from a new art.

Innovations and Technology

Ponder Questions (page 33-34)

2. Think of a specific invention in the past (Printing Press)

Printing Press (15th century)
         A. Who benefitted the most when the printing press became a social necessity?

The one who benefitted the most when the printing press became a necessity are the middle and upper classes because most of the writers and authors are in these categories, by this invention the printing of the Bible took place and because of this invention the authors and the writers can saved time from the time consuming "block-printed" which is the technology that they're using while there's no printing press yet.

        B. Who was at the losing end when it became a social necessity?

The ones who can't afford the printing press are at the losing end particularly the lower class people because during this time the printing press is expensive and they think that it's only for the rich people.

     C. Which authority, institution, or investment was threatened when the new invention became necessary?

Perhaps, the one who is selling and using the "block-printer" which is the use of characters and pictures that is carved into a wooden block. They are threatened because the printing press is more easier and not a time consuming technology.

     D. Which authority, institution, or investment was magnified when the new invention became necessary?

Johannes Gutenberg was magnified because he's the one who invented this technology and several print masters that were studying about the movable type.

       E. Who exercised control over the new invention?

Of course the one who exercised control over the printing press was the writers, authors, and  publishing companies.

       F. Who had (no) access to the new invention?

The people who had no access to the printing press were the peasants and the low class people because this time only a small percentage of people who knows how to read and write and most of these are from the low classes.

3. Think of a specific  technology that has not been invented yet, but you feel might benefit the people (Ooho edible water bottle)

Water pouches using Spherification process

         A. Who will be likely champions of this new invention?

The one who will be likely champions and will benefit to this invention are actually all  the people because this water pouches does not only help reduce the use of  water bottles but also it can help reduce the increasing rate of global warming. These water pouches are edible, that means you can drink it all without leaving a single trash that can contribute to the pollution. It takes roughly 450 years to decompose a single water bottle that's why it is so beneficial to us all that we use this water pouches because it can cut the use of plastic waste.

         B. Who will be the likely enemies of this new invention?

The enemies of this invention are most likely the one who manufactures water bottles because they will loose income because people will not buy their water bottles anymore and perhaps they will innovate their product to counter this so called water pouch. Thus, makes them enemies of this invention.

         C. Whose authority, institution, or investment will be enhanced by the new invention?

The inventor Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and his research team at Imperial College London will be recognized and will enhanced because people will invest on their product and will produce a game changing innovation that can help slow down the warming of the earth.

         D. Whose authority, institution, or investment will be destroyed by the new invention?

Again, the one who manufactures the water bottle will be destroyed and their income will decrease because most people will choose a planet saving product than their planet warming product. Although, plastic bottles can be recycled, it doesn't mean that all of the plastic bottles will be recycled because like in other countries they don't have a discipline and they're not strict when it comes to recycling materials like these water bottles, so it will still add plastic waste to our earth and it will take 450 yeares to decompose it, Surely, companies who manufacture plastic bottles will be destroyed because people will choose to buy this brilliant invention.

         E. Who will have (no) control over the new invention?

The people who will have no control over this invention would be the people who doesn't have a knowledge about this invention. The people who invented this product will be the only persons who can control it because they have the authority because they're the one who created it.

        F. Who will have (no) access to the new invention?

Perhaps, the people who is in an isolated island and the people who doesn't have money to buy these products because I think when this water pouch hit the market it will be kinda expensive.

5. Can you think of a media technology  that you feel people can in fact live without, but are considered by many to be necessary?

For me, it would be smartphones because personally I don't have a smartphone and I can still live without it. Some people think that without it they can't live, these people are called Nomophobians they simply can't see a world without their phone. Although, smartphones can be very helpful to us by its applications and very useful stuffs that can make our work easy, but it doesn't mean that we can work or be productive without it, because at the end of the day even if you don't have your phone with you, you can still live and work things on your own.
