Technology predictions

Science Fiction is a genre that amuses everyone. Science Fiction Technologies actually inspire future inventions and influence them. Science is the backbone of everything. Every technology make the lives of millions of people better. Most of the technologies that exist today were once only seen movies. Today, the growth of technologies are rapidly increasing. It is a phenomenon that we can't stop because of man's increasing knowledge. Because of man's wild imagination many movies in the past have predicted the technologies that we have right now.

Some technologies today comes from the ideas of the futuristic sci-fi films in the past that was created only for entertainment. Some inventors got an idea from this futuristic movies and made it possible today. Here are some of them:

Video calls (Skype, Facebook messenger, Kakao talk, Facetime, etc)

Video calls are widely used in modern society today because of its easy access especially if you have a WiFi in your house. Some applications in the Appstore offers video calls for free, you just have to turn on your mobile data and you can easily connect to your families and friends from across the globe.

Futuristic video call in the 1960's "Jetsons"
A cartoon named "The Jetsons" have predicted video calls in one of their episode. Isn't it amazing? This animated film way back in 1962 have predicted a technology that we're using today. During that time it's just an imagination and an innovation, but now we can easily accesss Video calls and have a good conversation with our love ones.

Optical Camouflage
Harry Potter uses the Cloak of Invisibility
Remember the Cloak of invisibility from the ever famous Harry Potter series? It is the third deathly hallow namely the elder wand, resurrection stone and this invisibility cloak. It has a special power that can turn anyone invisible. I remember when I was watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry used this cloak to spy and it excites me to try this invisible cloak and go to my crush house and spy on her, which is a bad idea because I might be tempted to commit sin.

Optical Camouflage is a technology that can make you invisible. This technology works on the principle of the Augmented Reality. It makes the light rays bend around the material where they hit making the object invisible. This technology is no more fictional because it is tested and tried in some countries around the world.

Self Driving Cars
Google's self driving car

Google's self driving car was adapted from many sci-fi films in the past. It is a bit reality for a while in 2010 because Google hasn't released it yet in the commercial markets. But, in August 2012, Google announced that they have completed a driving test using this driver less car without having any accident, thus, this technology is no longer a science fiction but now an advance technology.

There are so many technologies that we are currently using today comes from a futuristic movie in the past. Throughout the years technology is spreading very fast and there's nothing we can do about it, we are living in an advance world that has many technologies that can make life easier but we should not over use technology because it can change the way we live like in the movie "Wall-E", People became soft-boned because of the excess use of their chair technology which is a bad thing because they can't walk properly anymore.

Indeed, we are now living in an advance era where technologies from the past are now coming to reality. There are many more technologies in scifi movies today that is futuristic, and we don't know what predictions might occur. We just have to think beyond the box and imagine the unimaginable because a big accomplishment or success comes from a simple idea. Who knows? You might invent or create a technology in the future that can help the world to become a better place. We just have to think the impossible and everything will become possible.

Media Analysis

My group's topic was about the recent hot issue on Marcos' Burial in Libingan ng mga bayani. We used 5 different types of media to evaluate how each mediums conveys the news to the public. The first media that we used is the local newspaper (Philstar). They stated the news concisely without any biased so that the readers won't be confused. The second and third media that we used which is the international (CNN) and local (GMA news) sources both stated the facts clearly which people can rely on. They are both a trusted sources when it comes to news. The fourth media that we used comes from a radio program called DZMM for me they're not good on delivering the news to the public because they have been considered as a biased media. Lastly, a facebook post of one person stating her own opinion on the issue.

For me, there are a lot of medias that we used today. Before we take a stand on something or some news we should research A lot first, so that we can give our opinion clearly and  people can't interpret it in the wrong way because media today plays a vital role in our society today, it can change someone else mind and it can change the attitude of an individual.

What book will you be?

Books really helps us to acquire more knowledge by simply gaining wisdom through the books that we're reading. Especially, when we really absorbed what we are reading, it can change the way we think upon some things and it can change our mindset because written books are very powerful. Yes, written books in particular because words in the form of text have one magic property that no other format can provide. (Thomas Baekdal, 2011) Written books help you to think and it forces you to form stories in your head. To influence it with your personal preferences and desires. It forces you to use your imagination, unlike other media like the Television which spoon feeds you the information. You do not have to think when you watch TV. You are being presented with everything. You hear the sounds. You see the faces and the expressions. You see the colors, the background, and the environments. These are some of the reasons why watching TV is the dumbest form of engagement you can create. You do not have to think when you watch TV. You are being presented with everything.

Ever wonder why a movie, based on a book, isn't as good? It is not that it is shorter, or more "Hollywood". The real problem is that it takes away your imagination. The actors don't look or behave the way you imagined them. And because what you imagined was based on your personal preferences - what you liked them to be like - the movie ruins it for you.The magic of books comes from how the readers actively engage in them. How you force people to use their imagination. Great authors know this. They take you on a journey where they are forcing you to think all the time. That's the magic of written books.

A book on fire.
Imagine a future where books are being burned.Where firefighters starts the fire rather than putting them out. The people in this society do not read books, enjoy nature, spend time by themselves, think independently, or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they drive very fast, watch excessive amounts of television on wall-size sets, and listen to the radio on “Seashell Radio” sets attached to their ears.

This kind of society is being illustrated in Ray Bradbury's book called the "Fahranheit 451". It tells the story about the protagonist, Guy Montag who is a fireman who burn books as his profession. Soon, hbegins to question the value of his profession. Throughout the novel Montag struggles with his existence, eventually fleeing his oppressive, censored society and joining an underground network of intellectuals. With his newfound friends, Montag witnesses the atomic destruction if his former city and dedicates himself to rebuilding a literate and cultural society by embodying a certain book for future printing and use.

If I would embody a book, I will choose to be the Bible because this book is the most wonderful book that I've ever read. It contains many parables, life lessons, and it is the most best-selling book in the world. I want to be the Bible because I want to fulfill God's design for us here on earth to help other people to encounter Christ and I want to be an instrument of God to be used for His glory.
The Holy Bible

Media Exposure

Here's my media exposure that I recorded in one day.

As you can see, I recorded my whole day use of media. First thing in the morning, I used my mom's phone to check what time is it because I might be late again and when our car is in color coding I use my mom's phone for alarm to wake me up early. As you can see I used my mom's phone to listen in spotify because I listen to christian music and this is my devotion time to jumpstart my day. I also use my mom's phone while in the car to school to use facebook to update myself in some of the current events that's happening or just scan some stories and posts of my friends. I recorded this in a school day that's why I used the textbook as a media to study. This day I didn't have any homeworks that's why that last two media that I used is for leisure. I realized that my devotion time is so short unlike my time for facebooking and other stuffs it takes an hour and more. This should remind me that I should spend more time with God rather than wasting it in some unimportant matters.
